Please review the following information and distribute as appropriate.
The Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) has notified us of a license plate manufacturing and shipping delay that began on October 8, 2010. At this time normal shipping is expected to resume on Monday, October 18, 2010.
We are monitoring this situation closely and are investigating various options to ensure adequate forms stock and general issue plate inventory is available to fill county orders.
If you receive an inquiry from a customer who has ordered specialty license plates, please assure them that the plates will be manufactured, but there may be an additional delay before they can be delivered.
This delay could also impact any 15-Day Temporary Tags that were issued as they may expire before the specialty license plates are available. If your office receives an inquiry from a customer whose temporary tag is about to expire, you may issue an additional 15-Day Temporary Tag (using the same specialty plate number) rather than having to issue general issue plates and a new registration sticker for the vehicle in the interim.
Thank you for your help in distributing this information and we will update you periodically on the status.
Randy Elliston, Director
Vehicle Titles and Registration Division
Texas Department of Motor Vehicles
