[Vtr-tac] Mileage Based Insurance Policies

Electronic Distribution of VTR Information to Texas Counties vtr-tac at dot.state.tx.us

Please review and distribute as appropriate.

A different type of auto insurance policy is starting to appear in Texas. These policies have both a policy expiration date and a mileage limit. Insurance information from all insurance providers is sent to the TexasSure database to match to the appropriate vehicles. As with other types of policies, these are valid until the insurance company reports them as expired or canceled.

Therefore, mileage status is not a factor that the counties need to consider as you verify the insurance of a vehicle. Please continue to use current insurance verification procedures based on policy expiration, including those insured with mileage-based policies. If the TexasSure application returns *Verify Manually,* you may still accept a valid insurance card or other acceptable proof of insurance as you do today.

Thanks,
